Bookstore Review: Verbatim Books

Updated: Jun 25

I almost feel silly adding this bookstore because it is such a cornerstone to the South Park community in San Diego. But that is the point of this map, to point locals and non-locals alike to beloved book stores!

Verbatim books is a used book store known for its bright green exterior, many dinosaur figurines, and their iconic book wall. They have a huge inventory of books, a corner for local zines, and a cabinet of first editions. They have some seating, and their store is very bookstagramable.

Much like a thrift store, you do have to look through lots of books to find something you are looking for, but there are many gems to be found. As a person who can get overwhelmed by choice, I personally like to come in with some ideas of what I am looking for (but maybe you don’t have ADHD).

This is definitely one of the busiest bookstores in the area, so you might be among a small crowd, especially on the weekend. Be prepared to park over on a side street, because parking can be hard to find on 30th. This bookstore is a part of the San Diego Independent Book Crawl, a book lover’s event that my friends and I try to attend every year (and we even went for my bachelorette party this year!)

Overall, this is great place with a quirky and fun atmosphere and oh so many books!
