Bookstore Review: Pegasus Books (Downtown Berkeley)

Updated: Jul 15

This bookstore was like a warm hug. Outside it is a cheery bright blue, and inside the whole store is just so inviting with its beautiful displays and cute handmade signs. It is really easy to find everything, it is medium sized but is packed with books.

It has a small section of new books, and the rest of the store is made up of used ones. I loved the ‘sale fiction’ shelf (I found some hardcovers, like Ali Smith’s Summer, for $9.99) , the children’s section, and the second story area with literary fiction. They even have a section of local authors and zines!

There was a bookshelf in the front with used books they had just received where there were a lot of great discounted hardback books. I took home a practically untouched copy of Tomorrow and Tomorrow and Tomorrow by Gabrielle Zevin, which I have been wanting to read for some time for $19. It was mere feet away from a new edition of the book that was going for $28. Also, they give a 10% student and teacher discount (I didn’t even have to ask, they offered!)

This is one of a few Pegasus books in Berkeley and Oakland, but I didn’t have time to go to the others, so I’m not sure how they compare. Emma and I spent an hour here but I could have stayed longer. If I am ever in the area again, I definitely will come back!
